Dr. Sun Yat-sen, widely known as the Father of Modern China, had dedicated his life to ending Qing rule and building a modern republic.
In 1894, he founded the Xingzhonghui, or Revive China Society, to promote revolutionary change. After the failed First Guangzhou Uprising in 1895, he was forced into exile but continued his efforts abroad.
In 1905, while in Tokyo, he united several revolutionary groups under Tongmenghui or the Revolutionary Alliance.
In 1910, he strengthened the alliance and moved its headquarters from Singapore to Penang. On 13th November he held the Penang Conference at 404 Dato Kramat Road and planned the 2nd Guangzhou or Huanghuagang Uprising. The following day, on 14th November he held a meeting at 120 Armenian Street, raised $ 8000, and planned more fund raising campaigns.
