YB Dr Lee Boon Chye launched the event on alcohol and smoking related health problems. He mentioned lung injury caused by vaping. A new term has been coined; EVALI - E-cigarette and Vaping Associated Lung Injury. Vitamin E acetate found in THC containing vape products has been identified as the possible culprit causing severe lung injury resulting in death.
Buntung Polyclinic has a good Quit Smoking service. Counseling and Nicotine Replacement Products are available for smokers, so is Champix which is an oral medication for smoking cessation. They also have an exhaled CO detection device to find out whether smokers are compliant with the anti-smoking cessation programme.
