The ACS Primary School Magic Club lead by Mr. Samuel Seow (left) the magician.  This picture was taken in 1966.  Mr. Low Chooi Beng (right) was the principal then.  Mr. Samuel continued to teach magic to the students for many years and even opened a magic shop in Anderson Road. I bought a magic wand, several decks of cards, match boxes, ropes etc and practised magic but failed to qualify as a magician.  Mr. Paul and Mr. Peter, sons of Mr. Samuel Seow, learned the trade but left later to serve the Lord Jesus Christ till today.  Mr. Samuel Seow is now a devoted Christian and is a member of the Canning Garden Methodist Church where I usually meet him to "yum cha".

From left: Tan Chik Kaw, Leong Oon Keong, ?, Mr. Samuel Seow, ? ? ?.  Mr. Samuel Seow was also instrumental in setting up the school Movie Club.  I still remember the picture "The Return of the Mummies".  A real scarry movie for me then. Mr. Samuel was my class teacher once and I still remember his English dictation classes.  He had a big bat to frighten you if you get lots of mistakes in English spelling.  Now my Inglish spelling is pretty good.  Keep it up Mr. Samuel.

  1. Some that i remember:
Squatting: 2,3,5 : Chin Tuck Seng, Lau Fei Chew, Chan Sum Mee
Sitting : 1,3 : Tan Chik Kaw, Leong Onn Keong

  2. Dr. Leong, it is good of you to have a blog on ACS Ipoh during your years there. I left ACS Ipoh in 1964 after completing my Upper Six and never returned to serve until 2000 as the 46th Principal although I was teaching in and around Ipoh all the time.

I think I know you through working in the ACS Ipoh Alumni Association during those years your served there.

Keep up the good work and keep the banner of ACS Ipoh flying. I'll be reading this blog from time to time and will add my comments.

    Best wishes and God bless!

    Victor Chew

  3. Hi Benny. Very good memory.
Hi Victor. I certainly remember you. We were with Dato Thong in the Alumni. Please keep the comments coming. Tq.

  4. Good to learn from your blog about Paul Seow. He was such a sensation when he won the Bakat TV talent competition. I was a member of his Paul Seow Club. I was so intrigued by his magic tricks and I saved my school pocket money to buy them. I was so proud to perform the tricks before my friends. Where is Paul Seow now? Thought good if I have to opportunity to meet up with my childhood hero.

  5. Hi. Samuel Seow was the magician teacher in ACS school. He had gone home to be with his Lord. Paul Seow, his elder son, is now in Singapore. He does come back to Ipoh once a while and is heavily involved in Kingdom Work.
