COPD Workbook

I am currently working on a COPD Workbook for my patients.  Took several weeks to learn how to write the workbook using MS Word.  Things to consider include: cover page, header, footer, style, font, table of content and reference.  Important to use section breaks.  This is my introduction and I am into the second page today.

"Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is characterised by persistent airflow limitation which is usually progressive. There is an enhanced chronic inflammatory response in the airways and the lungs to noxious particles or gases.

An individual with COPD has difficulty breathing (dyspnea). The sensation is worse with exercise. The shortness of breath is persistent and slowly worsens over time.

There is chronic cough which maybe intermittent and unproductive. Sputum production is chronic and can be of any pattern.

COPD is now considered a systemic disease with associated skeletal muscle wasting and it may initiate or worsen ischaemic heart disease, heart failure, osteoporosis, anaemia, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and depression."

Lots of reading and typing to go.

World Spirometer Day 2012

Dr. Leong Oon Keong and RN Leong Yee Leng
Translating talk into Cantonese
Performing lung function testing and recording the results
World Spirometer Day 2012 was celebrated on the 11th August at the YN Leong Hall located above my clinic.  Free lung function tests were given to the first 20 participants.  I talked about "Chronic Cough - when to take action".  RN Leong translated in Cantonese.  The event was sponsored by Sanofi Pasteur and Boehringer Ingelheim.  On this special day, participants were entitled to discounts for vaccination which could help prevent lung infection.
